My name is Ajah Stokes! When I was younger, I loved reading… before school ruined it for me. Suddenly, I was told I needed to read “longer & more complex books”. My grades were good in language arts & reading, I had a wide vocabulary, but I just could not sit through a 200+ page book. Some may say that this was simply a case of a kid being stubborn, but about 10 years after this struggle I had began, I was diagnosed with ADHD.

ADHD is much more than a short attention span. It impairs your perception of time, emotional stability, & your interest retention, along with so much more. I know I’m not the only one who’s struggled with the problem I started having as a child. So many others like me have a brain that is constantly preoccupied, which can make it hard to enjoy something as simple as reading. Regular books? Often too long to keep interest. Audiobooks? Have to be replayed over & over just to try to remember what the narrator is saying. Comics? Too visually stimulating at times. Do these sound like problems you face? Aside from my love of writing & art, that’s why I decided to make the Absurd Anthology magazine.

The stories are short, yet captivating, often focusing on 1 moment or period of time rather than a convoluted plot. Every issue will be themed by a genre/subgenre & will contain 15 short stories. The illustrations are visually interesting, but not overwhelming. Best of all, some magazines will feature 5 (out of the 15) stories straight from the wonderful community via writing contests hosted on the ‘Submit’ page. I aim to make this a safe & fun space for readers, writers, & creatives alike. Let’s enjoy reading our way.
